WHAT IS HEALING?

What does healing mean in the context of daddylabyrinth? Is it a moment when I have––in the grand tradition of American "overcoming" narratives––gotten over my past and become a complete, successful human being?

Probably not. It feels more like a small, internal decision to change incrementally and to take on each situation without letting my head be clouded by the past. Healing means that I'm doing the things required to make sure I don’t perpetuate the anger I internalized from my father.

And from my perspective as a father, healing means going forward with the confidence that I'm not going to simply pass the curse on to my sons. I expect to be healing, in both of these senses, as long as I'm alive. Maybe longer.
