THE LAWYER DANCE
We didn't have money for a lawyer. Looking back, I don't even know why my mom pursued one. She knew she couldn't pay, not with three kids to feed and a barely employable husband. But she at least talked to someone about it, as this letter from Leonard S. Miller at Miller and Reenstra attests.
They bugged her about it, and Mr. Miller sounded a bit pissed.
Well, she obviously wasn't going to pay that. And I could see her being pissed in return and Millier's tone. So she fired off a letter of her own.
Ultimately, she went with a public defender. Charles Scavuzzo, though other documents mention a gentlemen named O'Byrne. So Scavuzzo may not have had any further role in my father's life beyond this document. Given the life of publid defenders and the number of delays in this trial, that's hardly a surprise.
