MANY INVITATIONS TO THE COURTROOM

I have in my possession a dozen of these notices, though the only one worth showing is the very last: January 6, 1975. (Each one has a bail bond notice for the same date, as if one reminder was insufficient.)

  • Thursday, January 3, 1974 (Honorable Charles S. Joleson)
  • Monday, February 11, 1974 (begins a string with the Honorable Thomas R. Rumana)
  • Monday, March 11, 1974
  • Monday, April 8, 1974
  • Monday, May 6, 1974
  • Monday, June 3, 1974
  • Monday, July 8, 1974
  • Monday, August 5, 1974 (begins a string with the Honorable Joseph J. Salerno)
  • Tuesday, September 17, 1974
  • Tuesday, September 24, 1974
  • Tuesday, November 26, 1974

To which I can only say: Holy shit, that's a lot of putting off. These endless delays could have come from the court itself, from my father's public defender. There might not have been time for him, or they may have been waiting for insanity plea paperwork, or they may simply have been waiting for him to die of shame and save everybody the trouble.

Which is exactly what he did.
