A PARTIAL EXPLORATION OF THE COLLECTION

When I first started daddylabyrinth I snuck out a small case of fossils and two books from one of the boxes in my garage, knowing that the collection would be crucial to the project.

We took a little footage of the ceremony. I call it a ceremony because I felt my spirit dominated by the desire to make my father's collection public somehow. I knew so little at the time, though, because I hadn't dug through enough of his stuff to know how deep his interest in geology and fossils went.

So I put this in the labyrinth with some embarrassment, having underestimated the man. Having not taken the time to know what he left behind before I spoke.

I had his rocks and fossils for almost forty years before I started asking questions about them. What took me so long? No doubt some form of arrogance I hadn't been able to identify in myself until now.
