A GAP IN THE HISTORY
There isn't much legal documentation for the phase of Thomas J. Wingate's life between his arrest for assault with intent to kill on August 15, 1973 and his death on January 10, 1975. Maybe I'm lucky in that regard, since the paperwork might just bury me.
Maybe I'll have to go to Paterson and do some heavy legal research at the courthouse, at the library. The files included in this path include notices to appear in court, bail bond paperwork, my mom's search for a lawyer, and evidence of attempts to claim he was not guilty by reason of insanity.
But overall, this section disappoints me. I'm hoping for a blockbuster piece of information to drop from the sky and make it exciting. Though maybe nothing will make it as exciting to me as the paperwork from the court-martial or the juvenile delinquency or the prison term.
I lived through it, after all. I was there with the man from beginning to end. There wouldn't be much discovery in the paperwork, much intrigue.
